Jackets and frogs

We were excited to receive our new jackets from KidsCan. They are really warm.

This week we started reading Diary of a Frog by Sally Sutton. We shared our character descriptions on Edmodo as part of #NZReadAloud. Because the main character is telling the story we don´t know her name but some of us made up a name for her!

Play Dough and Trans Tasman Games

We made some play dough this week so we could practice making 3D shapes.

Next week we are starting the Mangahigh Trans-Tasman games, competing against schools in Australia and New Zealand. It would be very exciting to win a real medal!

Cross Country and Fuzzy Doodle

We had our school cross-country on Thursday. Two Room 6 students are off to compete in the inter-school competition on 24th August.

Congratulations Terrah-Kaine and Gwendoline!

We drew life cycles for Fuzzy Doodle (a great picture book by Melinda Szymanik and Donovan Bixley). After posting them on Edmodo we left comments for our new friends from around New Zealand who are also taking part in #NZReadAloud.

Amazing adjectives and powerful verbs

We are writing narratives this term and creative writing has been lots of fun. This week we focused on using more interesting adjectives and verbs. Here are some samples from our writing:

They all marched on a track made out of gravel. They rested for a bit while they had a drink and a snack.
by Terrah-Kaine

The man is heavy-booted.
by Tuoro

The trees are humungous.
by Gwendoline

They were trudging through the bush and they came to a cliff. They tripped over a rock and plummeted to the ground.
by Pani

The long, green grass was blowing in the gentle breeze.
