Manuhiri and the Kaikohe Christmas Parade

We had some visitors in our class on Thursday from Rooms 14 and 16. All of the students worked so well together and we did lots of learning through play.

Great teamwork to create a domino run.

Lots of crafty paper creations here.

The Christmas Parade on Saturday was a huge success. The Kaikohe West float looked fantastic and we won second prize! The theme was A celebration of cultures.

Maui's sun and dinosaurs

We read the book "How Maui slowed the sun" and retold it in our own words. We also drew our own versions of the sun:

On Thursday we wrote descriptions of dinosaurs. Mrs Bingham mixed all the dinosaurs up and we had to match the writing to the dinosaur. Here is one example:

Lifejackets and fireworks

The Junior Journal reading group have been reading about life jackets. They made a poster to show why they are important.

We also wrote some fireworks poems and pasted them onto fireworks pictures with lots of glitter.

Water Safety

Whaea Tracey came to talk to us about water safety. Some of the things we learned are:

  • Don't swim unless an adult is watching you.
  • To check if the current is too strong throw a stick into the water.
  • Always wear a life jacket when you are on a boat.
Evo showed us how to put on a life jacket and make sure it fits correctly.

We have had 100% attendance twice this week! So we took some photos showing all 21 of us to celebrate.

A silly one!

And a sensible one.
On Friday we had school photos. All the teachers had to go and have their photos taken together. Veshay, Ocean and Danielle from Room 1 came and entertained us with stories and games. We didn't want them to leave.

Chocolate cake

We really enjoy watching Michael Rosen tell his 'chocolate cake' story.

Evo delighted us all with his retelling of the story. We made a quick video after assembly on Friday afternoon so the quality is not great. If we get time next week we will try to make a more clear version.

Wash your hands!

During Passion Week we did an experiment with multigrain bread. One piece of bread was passed around the circle so everybody touched it. We put the other piece into a ziplock bag using tongs. The results astonished everybody and showed us why it is SO important to wash your hands.

It looked even more disgusting in real life!
