We have been reading The Jumbies in class. It is 'an inventive twist on a classic Haitian folktale' [Goodreads] and we are really enjoying it.  As the year is disappearing quickly I am not sure we will finish the book. Fortunately, you are able to read this online - just click on the link.

Performing plays and writing them!

Last term we all gave feedback on what we liked and didn't like about reading:

The main thing we discovered is that a lot of us like reading and performing plays. So this term we have had a strong focus on reading scripts. This has transferred into our writing and last week we wrote our own plays and presented them to the class.

'tion' suffix and charging station

We have been learning the tricky suffix 'tion'. Room 3 could think of lots of words that have this ending. Here are some of them:

Every morning we check in to let our teacher know how we are feeling. We stand on the charging mat and put our token into the box. If we are feeling Great we take a Green card - there are ideas for us to help others. If we are feeling OK there are ideas to help us feel better on the Yellow cards. And if our token goes into the Red box it means we are feeling Low and would like some help to solve our problem. We can fill in the form and Mrs Bingham knows to catch up with us during the day. Here is what our charging station looks like:

Cannon has been working on using more descriptive language. For writing, he made some boring sentences more interesting in our modelling book:

Lockdown

Well, that was a shock to suddenly stay home for 3 weeks! Thanks to technology we were able to keep in touch and check on each other.

Here is one of the many Zooms we had while we were in Lockdown:

Whaea Jo from St John Ambulance came to teach us how to be safe at home and at school. The main message was 'slow down'! We learned how to put bandages on (and roll them up neatly when we had finished). Room 3 were great role models for Ngatahi ai te Mahi during this lesson.
