Pizza

This week we learned about the history of pizza. Did you know pizza used to be considered poor peoples' food. One day (about 130 years ago) an Italian baker made pizza for Queen Margherita.

He really wanted her to like it so he made it in the colours of the Italian flag.

He used basil for the green, mozzarella cheese for the white and tomatoes for the red.
Queen Margherita loved the pizza so he named it after her. Once the rich people found out they all wanted to try it too!

We made some pizzas in class and they were delicious. Most had ham and cheese but we also made a Margherita pizza. Many of us had not tasted fresh mozzarella before and we didn't really like the weird texture but the taste was ok.
