Storytime and Cake Week

On Wednesday we read Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.

We also completed some activities based on the book - Wordfinds, Codebreakers, Mazes, Origami and Sudoku.

We have been reading Spaghetti Giraffe, a story about Mina Cucina who wants to win the Confectionation (a baking competition). She tries to make a Hummingbird Cake but it doesn't work out. On Thursday we made a Room 3 Hummingbird Cake and it was delicious.

First we mixed the ingredients together. 

After we baked the cake we let it cool on a wire rack.

Next we made some cream cheese icing.

Then we decorated the cake with walnuts.

Finally we could eat it. Yum!

 On Friday Ashleigh brought in a birthday cake to share with us. It was a scrumptious chocolate cake with heaps of  and M&Ms on top. What a treat for the cake and chocolate lovers in Room 3 (aka everybody).

Storyboard That!

We had a gentle introduction to Term 2 with half the class at school (12 of 24). It was so nice to see all the friendly faces.

Our favourite activity this week has been making storyboards to show our learning. They can be used in so many different subjects. Here are some examples from one of our reo lessons:

NZ Read Aloud Spaghetti Giraffe

We have been meeting up with students from Red Beach, Napier and Invercargill to read Spaghetti Giraffe together on Zoom. The author, Sarah Johnson, even came to visit and read Chapter 2 for us. It is exciting to be learning with so many people. One day there were 56 of us online!
