It is report writing time and we have been setting goals in class as part of our student voice on our school reports. We collaborated and brainstormed some ideas to share.

Explorers

This term we have been learning about Maori arrival in New Zealand and Polynesian explorers. Brosnan made a waka out of recycled materials:

We have also been learning about Abel Tasman along with students all around New Zealand as part of #NZReadAloud.
One of the tasks was to draw a map showing Tasman's first journey to New Zealand in 1642.

19 students and statistics

Three new students have joined our class this term so it was time for an updated class photo. We did take some 'serious' photos but I think this one shows the energy and togetherness of Room 7:

Whaea Lucinda teaches in Room 7 once a week (we have 2 teachers every Thursday). This week she did a statistics lesson with us. We never realised how many of us have names with 6 letters!

Nga tae

This week we were scientists exploring colour. We made coloured playdough, read Hello Red Fox by Eric Carle, painted dragons, and made a hypotheses about what would happen in our Walking Water science experiment.

Wildflower bees

At the beginning of the year we planted some wildflower seeds. We have had lots of bees visiting in the last couple of weeks to collect pollen.

Our beautiful wildflower garden.

Can you see the bee on the flower?

The Duffy show, writing and construction

We have only been back at school for one week but a lot has happened!
The Duffy Theatre Show, Duffy and the Cloakbay Bully, was highly entertaining. Here are some photos:

There was an impromptu tower challenge in Room 7 on Friday and the height of the towers was impressive.

In writing, we are learning to use detail so the reader can make a mind picture. Aurora did this very well by using lots of adjectives in her story:
