Cake Stall and Mangamutu Stream visit

We had another cake stall this week and have almost raised enough money for our bus to Matai Bay. Whaea Chanelle has been selling ice blocks for us to help raise the last $100 we need. Amani and Calaise made a fabulous sign to advertise our delicious cakes. It must have worked because we sold out very quickly.

We also had our visit to Mangamutu Stream.

On Wednesday we walked down to Rāwiri Taiwhanga Park to test the water quality with Rosie from the Whitebait Connections Drains to Harbour programme. It was lots of fun using nets to scoop things out of the water so we could examine them.

Unfortunately we found a lot of Gambusia fish in the stream. Miss Nicola took them home to feed her pet koi as it is illegal to put them back into the waterways. Click on the link if you want to learn more about them.

Ashleigh and Mei head to the water with their net.

Junior inspects his catch.

Rosie explains to the class what they need to look for.

Caitlin on a mission.

Ashleigh and Patungahere identify the bugs and fish they caught.

We had a busy day being scientists.
